New Version Of DATS Software Begins Shipping To Customers

The latest version of Prosig’s DATS software – Version 7 – has begun shipping to selected customers.

Work More Efficiently

V7.0 improves DATS in all areas. Several new facilities mean that users can work even more efficiently than ever.

  • Real-time displays mean that measurement results are available immediately following a test.
  • Test and measurement tasks can now be automated with much less effort using the new Visual Scripting interface.
  • The new DATS Catalog facility organises and keeps track of your data. You can search all of your data using any characteristic stored with the signal.

Increased Usability

The DATS interface has been comprehensively overhauled. All aspects of the analysis interface are now under the control of the user. Arrange the tools, menus and toolbars how you want them. Both interactive and automated analysis is now easier for the novice and power user. For users who want to share their data with colleagues who don’t have DATS there is a free DATS Data Viewer.

Improved Accuracy

Data storage and analysis calculations now use 64-bit arithmetic for better accuracy. Most competitive systems use 32-bit or even 24-bit floating point arithmetic. With the release of V7, DATS delivers unparalleled accuracy.

Visual Scripting

The DATS worksheet interface has been rewritten from the ground up and extensively improved. It is now possible to create complex capture and analysis tasks without having to write code. Visual Scripting extends the DATS worksheet interface to add sophisticated automation constructs such as loops and conditional execution. Visual Scripting is based around DATS Processing Units (DPUs) and allows a worksheet to be used for everything in DATS from capture to producing reports. Data from multiple sources can be combined using the all-new “SignalSet” construct. Tests with user written old-style BASIC Scripts have shown that a twenty page Script can be reduced to single easy-to-see-and-understand Visual Script.

New Excel Export

The new Visual Scripting interface contains an all-new Microsoft Excel export. Simply link up your results to the Excel DPU and export your data and Named Element data to any row, column or cell in a spreadsheet.

DATS Catalog

The DATS Data Catalog watches your PC disk for data being added, modified or removed. It then maintains an up to date record of the data and its attributes. A user can then perform complex, SQL-like lookup functions. Want to find all the data for a particular vehicle between two dates captured by a particular engineer? DATS Catalog will do it with ease!

Improved Interface

The user interface has been completely overhauled in V7.0. All of the elements of the user interface (menus, toolbars, explorer bars etc) can now be arranged and docked completely under the control of the user. You decide which items you need most and put them where you want them. To make it easier to find analysis functions there is a built-in search facility and users can also add analyses to a “Favorites” menu. Similarly, to make it easier to find data there is a desktop search facility. “Drag and drop” has become “search and drop”.

Improved Data Handling

DATS datasets have now been extended to support storage of 64-bit floating point values. Additionally, analysis modules now use 64-bit arithmetic in their calculations. This greatly improves the accuracy of results and complements the high quality, 24-bit capture capabilities of the Prosig P8000 data acquisition systems.

DATS Data Viewer

Ever wanted to share your DATS data with colleagues who don’t have DATS software? Now you can. With the release of DATS V7.0 there will be a free DATS Data Viewer application. This will be a free download from this website. Non-DATS users will then be able to view and interact with DATS signal data.

New Programming Model

For users who want to leverage the power of DATS datasets and analyses in a programming environment there is now a new, flexible way to do so. The DATS Object Model is a Windows COM object that interacts with the DATS environment. COM works seamlessly with Windows including the new .NET tools. The Object Model can be used in a range of environments such as Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft Office, scripting languages (Perl, Python etc) and, of course, DATS BASIC.

Compatibility

With all these fantastic new facilities existing users might wonder about their existing data, worksheets and Scripts. They needn’t worry. They can continue to use all of their existing files. V7 is completely compatible with V6 data, worksheets and Scripts.
DATS Version 7 represents one of the biggest leaps in functionality and performance since the first release of DATS for the Windows operating system. The revised user interface and Visual Scripting environment bring DATS right up to date. The enhancements in accuracy, data storage and cataloging take it beyond most other competetive systems. When combined with the P8000 hardware it’s a package that’s hard to beat for depth, efficiency and cost.
